RECOMMENDATIONS FOR BEGINNER AMPS

Basically, a beginner needs three things in an amp:

(1) 15Watts - no more, no less. When you're first starting out you don't need to blow away the neighbors with a massively loud amp. Anything less than 15W (unless it's an expensive tube amp) is going to sound like crap.

(2) Headphone jack - being able to practice in private will get you to practice more and help make you a better player by focusing in and really hearing what you are playing.

(3) Different amp sounds and effects - don't just get an amp that has two channels (clean and distorted) and basic tone controls (treble, mids, and bass) - after two weeks you're going to be bored. For a few dollars more, get a modeling amp that lets you explore different amp tones and has built in effects like delays and flanging.
